Apologies, Glances and Messed Up Chances

Oh noes, it's been quite a while since my last post, and more unusually, not out of having nothing to say, and indeed not even just out of laziness. I wanted to blog, and had stuff to talk about, but alas, time conspired against me and there was never a point when I was both at the computer and with a significant amount of time to waste.

Well anyway. school has returned, but it is fortunately not personal this time. what with the whole not-really-being-on-ness of comms, and the history being off every other week, it has largely been good, and by good i mean largely devoid of activities more taxing than drinking coke. speaking of which:

Yes, this is a picture of my room. no, it is not just some random picture of the internet. i would also like to point out that all those ans were accumulated over the course of about a year.. not something like a week..

in other news, for the most part, the only lessons i'm doing any real work (and even here, we are using the word work in the loosest possible sense) are computing and english. Seeing as how english is mostly just reading (Hamlet in one class, Waiting for Godot in the other), i should further point out that computing is the only lesson i currently have that is providing any form of taxing work. and it's html, so it's not really hard, just a tad time consuming.

i'm rather ashamed to admit that I read through the whole of hamlet already, and rather enjoyed it. yes i know, shakespeare, blah blah. on the one hand it makes me feel a bit bleh, but on the other, it's sort of good that i can enjoy one of the world's most famous literary works.

waiting for godot is just weird. we have only just started it, and do not have our copies yet (as our teacher pointed out, twice, ironically, we are waiting for "waiting for godot" as the opies of the play have not yet been delivered)

anyway, other than all the school shenanigans, the japanese exam (or bits of it) were screwed up by all/most of us, so woo for that. revision may have helped.

in other news, the school took us to a HE convention in the university of hertfordshire yesterday, which got me thinking about courses and universities and so forth, which i should have thought about already.. but couldn't be bothered. this is changing however, as i did go to two of the talks (all we had time for) one on english, and another on computing, and i'm generally leaning more towards an english course. I also picked up about 9 prospectuses, mostly at random (but focusing on more well known or heard of universities.. i did not, for example, pick up a prospectus from the university of glamorgan) and have since discarded about three, which were out my range (on both ends of the scale)

going to have to look into more though, as there are some supposedly decent universities i didn't pick up a prospectus from, among other things.

today.. i only had one lesson, so i wasnt in school for long.. and as a result little happened. but i've probably written a sufficient amount already (even if i have left anything off) so.. buh bye

Canadia!

bleh, back to school tomorrow. on the one hand, something to do, on the other hand, that something is work.

its been pretty boring since the last post (what else is new, eh?) but i did go to see X Men 3, which was all right, but made me feel _very_ nerdy, what with the talking to matt about how canonical it was and so forth.

so apart from that, it's been a never-ending circle of activity, unfortunately COMPLETELY devoid of alcohol, it's just been:

Sleep -> FFXI -> late night MTV -> Sleep

pretty much constantly. as a result, i've been very bored. we do appear to have new neighbours, but i havent met any of them, and they may or may not be interesting. we'll have to wait and see..

in the meantime, someone should get me drunk. very, very drunk.

The Things and the Stuff

I've now finished my exams for this year, and unfortunately have felt no sense of liberation, or happiness, or anything along those lines. it's ambivalence and apathy all the way, i'm afraid.

if there was a book entitled "Ambivalence and Apathy" I would so read it.

anyway, I finished my exams. I should probably talk about the ones I had since my last post (which would be the comms, history, and the rest of the computing exams) but there isnt too much to say, apart from that they were exams, and all went reasonably alright.

ok, so my hand hurt like it was bleeding after the history exam, because it was about an hour after the comms one, so I got to write many many fun fun funity fun fun essays.

so that was those exams. Then on friday i wandered into the school area around the time the physics exams finished, because a bunch of people were hanging out in the vale park. I say a bunch, normally that would mean abouut five, but at the peak times there were 20 odd people around, and it was generally good fun, with (eventually) frisbees, and many blunt weapons (simons crutches, and a cricket bat.. i don't think anyone was seriously injured, amazingly) and lots of junk, and lots of coke.

did i mention the lots of coke? well the lots of coke meant i was kept happy, and when some people had wandered off to buy frisbees (and for some reason, apparantly, hammocks) one of the coke cans was thrown around, and kicked about, before finally being jumped upon by yours truly and exploding. so that was fun.

Mmm.. Metronome

My sleeping has been screwed up the past few days (more so than usual) To such an extent that, at 7 AM sunday morning (having not slept since late saturday) I felt energetic enough to go for a walk. for three hours. around aylesbury.

it was largely uneventful, as most of the sane people are asleep, and as we all know, the insane people are a minority.

no, really.

so after that random occurance of.. walking.. (I'm only marginally sure it actually happened, it's entirely possible I hallucinated the whole experience) I strolled in the back gate, and after a brief conversation with a slightly bemused father who was standing in the garden, it transpired that my absence at such an obscene hour had been noted, but not deemed important. He seemed to think I'd been gallavanting about, and not merely on an innocent insomnia fueled walk.

And then today, for some bizarre reason, I woke up at roughly half four. in the morning. Now, based on my past week, one might find this surprising, since i don't think i'd gone to sleep before half four in the morning at any time over half term. but i was asleep sunday night, and as a result, awake at an ungodly hour of the morning, bright eyed and bushy tailed (minus the tail. and the eyes.) ready to tackle the 'mandatory' computing revision session. which was due to go on for four hours.

worryingly, what eventually turned out to only be a three hour session, was far more enjoyable than it should have been, and extremely more entertaining than the History revision session, which was half the length, and had free food. it wasn't so much the revision that was entertaining, as the serious note taking(read:doodling), and the fact that dave was complaining next to me about sitting through the same revision session twice.

on an unrelated note, you can listen to all of Head Automatica's new album (out tomorrow) on their Myspace page.
there are some good songs on it, but I don't know if i'll bother buying it. none of the songs live up to "the razor" or "beating heart baby" from their first album, but nevertheless it is worth a listen. or twelve
